Photovotaic (PV)

Nigerian people talking about PV mostly are looking to smaller solutions to light a lamp or power the TV during blackouts. These systems always demand energy storage in form of a battery with inverter etc.

You can see as well many streetlights powered with PV-modules and battery packs. Beside the price for the energy storage the problem with batteries is that the high temperature kills their capacity very quickly.

From the price for a PV-pack with energy storage about 60% are spent for the battery equipment, only about 40% for the energy generating unit.

In Germany we have hundreds of thousands of PV systems. They work without energy storage as they are linked to a private (standalone) or a national electricity grid.

As the main power demand takes place during the sunny side of the day, PV installations are capable of significantly support your power supply within your own standalone system up to a certain extent, but only when your personal standalone grid is running properly.
